Obesity Is The Curse Of The Age

Obesity is threatening the world with its epidemic increase in the recent decades. Unless it is checked in all possible ways it can kill more people than the powerful atom bombs.

Is there any doubt in the fact that the modern world is growing more obese in the recent decades? The health problems that are caused by obesity are more alarming. It is high time to consider this curse of the age and take steps to reduce the bulging waistline and the increasing weight.

The world growing more obese

The statistics about the increase in obesity are really alarming. The March issue of Readers Digest reports the obesity rates across the globe: US 34.3%, Canada 25.5%, UK 24% and so on. It is really shocking to know the increasing rate of

obesity like an unbridled wild horse. It is considered as an unchecked global epidemic. In the past decade it has doubled and the future is threatening with worse results all over the world.

Reasons for the increase in obesity

Experts on the study of obesity have stated that the increase in the epidemic rise of obesity can be explained by “structural factors” such as changes in food system, cultural norms, work schedules and government policies. Modern studies reveal that the changes in diet habit have caused great impact on the health of the people and the junk foods make people lazy as well as overweight.

Stress, anxiety and other psychological factors also contribute much to the increase in obesity.

High-calorie foods and low-nutrient foods are easily promoted by the commercialized global markets. Such commercial tactics and their attractive hooks through

media are said to be the main reason for the boost in fast food culture.

More kids of this age are growing obese than it was at anytime in the past. Obese kids are more likely to grow up into obese adults.

Why obesity is dangerous?

Obesity does not stop with the increase in body weight but it is also closely linked to the development of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, musculoskeletal disorders and some types of cancer.

Obesity is not only a personal health problem, but also it is a great burden on the society in many ways. It is sad that in the last 10 years the number of meals eaten away from home has increased dramatically, particularly among the youngsters and kids. The young adults tend to live in coffee shops, sushi cafes, pubs and fast food places, none of which really existed 10 years ago. Exercise has been reduced very much due to the sedentary lifestyle. People like to travel more by vehicles than by walk.

Beware of the great danger of obesity. It may be worse in the nearest decades, even than the mass killings of an atom bomb.
