Holiday season has come to an end. From the Thanksgiving Day till the New Year, there have been many occasions for heavy dinners and overeating. One may not realize while eating in parties.

But people who are with risk factors such as high cholesterol or heart problems may have to face more serious medical problems.

Digestive problems that arise from holiday overeating

1) WebMD says that holidays are cruel to our stomachs, especially during the winter holidays.

When your stomach is stuffed heartburn may be caused by acidic gastric juices that reflux into the delicate tissues of the esophagus.

2) Holiday dinners are generally high in sugar and fat which cause weight gain. They increase our craving for more food. Holiday feasting may precipitate gall-bladder attacks.

3) Fat and sugar are dangerous for patients with heart problems and high blood pressure. They may experience the adverse results within hours of their dinner.

4) Magee and Barrett point out in WebMD that it is quite dangerous to let yourself lose control during parties and indulge in "unconscious eating". Sweet cookies and candies may cause bitter results on diabetic patients.

5) People who are susceptible to gout may experience serious pain in their joints due to the buildup of uric acid crystals. Red meat and alcohol are the common culprits of such holiday feastings.

6) Overload of salty appetizers cause swollen ankles that may be present for some days.

The list of adverse results goes on. Holiday feastings are inevitable. But it is always prudent to be careful in the quantity and quality of eating. Prevention is better than suffering afterwards.
